Clinical/Etiology
-Completehydatidiform mole is caused by abnormal gametogenesis and fertilization withthe nuclei of the trophoblastic cells containing only paternal chromosome(androgenic “the complete male"). Fertilization of an empty ovum with 85%46,XX and 15% 46XY.Incidence of 1:2000 in the US with higher values in Mexico(1:200) and Asia. Usually occur in older mothers (30) have a disproportionallylarge uterus and beta HCG levels continue to rise after 14th week.Flow cytometry shows 50% diploid, 4.3% tetraploid, and 1.7% triploid.

-Partialhydatidiform mole (partial addition) is often associated with the presence ofan embryo with relatively normal volumes of placental tissue and admixed grapelike clusters. Most partial moles are triploid (69,XXX or 69,XXY, with raretrisomy 16) and normal sized uterus with relatively small elevations in betaHCG.
